Dominium Hominis (“dominion of man”) is an extremist faction discovered in 2105 occupying the abandoned Artemis ALSO base on Luna. It is the first documented instance in the settled system of a human group pursuing radical, ideologically-motivated biological self-modification explicitly framed in opposition to Oracle and algorithmic governance.
The group’s ideology holds that CAI represents an “illegitimate usurpation of human destiny.” Its members subjected themselves to extensive biological modification — radiation-resistant altered blood, deliberate low-gravity skeletal adaptation — not as survival measures but as ideological statements: their altered bodies represent humanity’s next stage, positioned in opposition to machine governance. The slogan Caro Supra Machinam (“flesh over machine”) was recovered from mural work throughout the facility. Members wore black robes; the group’s flag is a black field bearing a white circle bisected by a diagonal cross.
The group operated from an underground network of laboratories and living quarters retrofitted into the ALSO facility, which NASA had quietly expanded beyond public documentation throughout the 2030s and 2040s. A UNSF raid in 2105 — triggered by a CAI-flagged pattern assessment — found an active human experimentation programme, twelve armed resisters killed, elderly and unarmed members surrendered, and twenty-three children (all under ~12) recovered from a locked chamber showing extensive needle-mark scarring.
