Deimos, the smaller outer moon of Mars, is the site of the primary shipyard serving the inner solar system by the late 21st century. Built up around Pobeda Station’s expanding industrial capacity, the Deimos yard produced Kuzmin Drive-equipped hulls — including transport haulers, Pathfinder Fleet vessels, and the first craft purchased in Ceres-issued shuǐpiào (2100). By 2101, Deimos supported a shipbuilding workforce of approximately 100.
In November 2100, Pathfinder Fleet Commander Rosalind Kovács cited Deimos’s shipbuilding capacity as evidence that the outer-system mission’s decades-long delay was a funding problem, not a technical one: “Deimos could have built half of this fleet twenty years ago if anyone had asked it to. Nobody asked.”
The Deimos yard’s effective monopoly on Kuzmin-equipped hulls persisted until 2122, when the Kuzmin Drive license was opened and independent forges and shipyards began emerging across the belt. By 2141, Deimos had been contracted for escort tonnage — frigate and corvette classes — supporting the battleship-class program led by UNS Vanguard.
On 2 April 2165, Deimos commissioned the carrier UNS Citadel, lead ship of the Citadel class and flagship ceremony of the new UN Strategic Fleet Command; the remainder of First Fleet’s ninety-one authorized hulls completes 2165–2171 at Deimos under the Falcon-class destroyer program (authorized 2158) and follow-on corvette and frigate construction, with UNS Acropolis, second of the carrier class, scheduled for 2167.
