The Pathfinder Fleet, comprising two Kuzmin-drive frigates — Tsiolkovsky and Korolev — departed Deimos in 2097 as the first combined UN-Soviet-Chinese outer-system survey mission. Fleet Commander Rosalind Kovács laid out a three-leg mission order at Ceres (November 2100): Ganymede (farm colony siting), Jovian moons (ice/water hauling), and Titan (hydrocarbon feedstock). The fleet reached Jovian space in early 2103, discovering Europa’s L-chirality biosphere later that year and Callisto’s D-chirality ecosystem in 2104. In 2109, Korolev was permanently reassigned to Saturn for Mirror Fold study; Kovács acknowledged by 2130 that Korolev’s map was finished and the vessel was now a research platform, not a Pathfinder. Tsiolkovsky, recalled to Mars and retrofitted in 2129 (armor, beam laser, onboard CAI), became the first UN vessel to fight and win an armed engagement, neutralizing three Argus frigates at Pluto in December 2131. Pathfinder’s design philosophy — two frigates traveling as a pair — scaled into the Pioneer Fleet’s colony programme: Pathfinder surveys, Pioneer follows.
