Hesperus Initiative

Hesperus Initiative — Venus terraforming company founded 2078 by Torvald Meling and Dr. Livia Conti. Targets Venus’s cloud layer (~50–60 km altitude) rather than the surface, exploiting near-Earth gravity, hospitable pressure/temperature, and unmatched inner-system solar flux. Recruited for 22 years before deploying its first unmanned habitation module into the Venusian atmosphere in 2100. Recruited headcount above 40,000 as of 2100; by 2142, Aphrodite, the Venusian cloud-layer habitat, housed 428 people — roughly one recruit in a hundred. The Antimatter Bond launched in 2142, thirty-two years late, at 968 grams per year against a 3 kg/year floor estimate — only two of five planned orbital facilities operational. In early discussions with UN Treasury on the Antimatter Bond, a reserve-asset instrument planned for mid-2110s rollout, using byproduct material from atmospheric-processing solar collection arrays. Has not applied for Ceres or belt extraction permits. Explicitly not a weapons or propulsion company.

By 2164 the antimatter production facilities had reached operational maturity — production passed the Bond’s 10 kg/year target in 2163 and reached roughly 12 kg in 2164 — with Aphrodite’s resident population passing 4,000, and the surplus committed to funding the UN’s Jovian He-3 platform programme from 2165. The first Omani-flagged luxury hotel at Venus opened in 2164 within the Aphrodite operating volume; several independent gas-extraction operations have since licensed in the same volume. The 2165 Colonial Census recorded ~5,500 residents at Aphrodite — the smallest major settlement by population and the highest-value industrial site per resident. The terraformation project continues under Hesperus administration; no completion date has been published.
