The Spacers (深空族, Shēnkōng zú — “deep-space people”) are a prior spacefaring civilization whose artifacts have been confirmed at two sites in the Sol system: the Charon Anchor complex (including the Pluto subsurface facilities and the destroyed second Anchor whose debris forms the moons Styx and Kerberos) and a vessel holding station in the Kuiper Belt. The name was introduced by Dr. Liang Qiuyue in her 2142 paper establishing common fabrication origin across both sites, deliberately replacing “non-human structures” with a term she argued was more honest: “Whoever they were, they were, at minimum, spacefarers, in the same basic sense that we are becoming spacefarers.”
Alloy composition, trace-element ratios, and crystalline lattice structure match across both sites despite a scale difference of four orders of magnitude. No recognizable computing or control architecture has been identified at either site after decades of study — Liang speculated that Spacer technology may not depend on computation in any form currently recognized. Their material dating is unresolved (estimates range 400,000–2 million years), though the destruction event that produced the Styx/Kerberos debris converges on ~1.6 million years before present. The physical species inferred from facility scale (3–4m standing height) remains otherwise unknown.
