United Nations Security Force (UNSF)

The United Nations Security Force (UNSF) — the UN’s military arm in space. Its first operational deployment was Operation Crowbar at 10 Hygiea (2125), where Aegis-class corvettes conducted the first armed Charter enforcement action. UNSF Commander Lukas Richter served as tactical lead. The force also operates UNSF Criminal Investigations, which handles cases including the 2150 ELTS II android incident. At ELTS II, UNSF personnel secured the checkpoint corridor and maintained an eighteen-hour visible presence after detaining the unit.

In 2158, following a basing review initiated in 2156, UNSF announced the relocation of its central command from Luna to the 10 Hygiea facility — its command seat since the force’s establishment — in three phases: conversion begins 2159, first command elements deploy 2161, full operational central command at Hygiea by 2164. The Luna installation is retained as Cislunar Command, with its complement reduced by roughly half rather than withdrawn and a five-year transition for affected base contractors. The Hygiea installation carries a local CAI advisory core of the class first deployed at Ganymede in 2129.

In 2165, the fleet was transferred out of the Security Forces: the new UN Strategic Fleet Command took the warship fleet, and UNSF retained the constabulary role — warrant, raid, and boarding enforcement, including the Aegis-class corvettes, together with the UN Marine Corps and peacekeeping formations. High Provost Marshal Conrad De Vries, in post since 2161, left to become STRATCOM’s first Chief of Naval Operations; High Provost Marshal Ingrid Halvorsen succeeded him at UNSF Command, 10 Hygiea.

After the 2168 Demeter raid, UNSF Criminal Investigations took in 412 pirate detainees — the largest single intake in the force’s history.
