The Ceres Merchants’ Council is the governing trade body at Ceres Station. It initially opposed Governor Liu Wenjing’s proposal for a water-ice-backed local currency, wanting nothing on the books resembling competition with UN Credit. The Council’s position shifted after approximately two years of negotiation, driven by the practical recognition that UN Credit transfers routed through Earth-based clearing routinely took a season to settle at belt distances while crews were already bartering commodities locally.
On the 2158 UNSF relocation to Hygiea, the Council welcomed the anchorage for main-belt shipping security and requested consultation on coordinating military traffic with registered commercial routes — Tianshui shipping firms making the same request through the Council’s transport committee. Its labor liaison office opposed the 2159 Tianshui Compact, calling the founding convention of the Sovereign Miners’ Coalition “an unlicensed gathering of contract violators” and noting the liaison office remains the recognised channel for labor grievances at Ceres.
On the 2165 establishment of STRATCOM, the Council welcomed the absence of fixed fleet anchorage at any settlement.
By 2175 the Council administers standing supply agreements under which Ceres agricultural cooperatives deliver post-harvest residue and food-processing waste to Pallas as the organic feedstock for the Ark’s Cradle-protocol soil production — received composted and mature, at ordinary freight rates.
