They reported a structural similarity: not simple computational overload, but sensor and timing irregularities consistent with an external interference pattern rather than an internal scheduling fault.

The 2015 Anomaly

Ten days before its historic 14 July 2015 closest approach to Pluto, New Horizons entered an unplanned autonomous safe mode, severing contact with mission control for approximately ninety minutes. At the time, NASA attributed the fault to a timing conflict: the onboard computer, compressing command sequences for the approach while simultaneously preparing observation data, briefly overloaded and triggered a protective shutdown.
