Titan is the largest moon of Saturn and the target of the third leg of the Pathfinder Fleet’s mission, as outlined by Fleet Commander Rosalind Kovács in November 2100. The mission order calls for hydrocarbon feedstock manufacturing — refining Titan’s surface and atmospheric hydrocarbons into plastics and pharmaceutical feedstocks currently supplied almost entirely by Earth-crude extraction. Kovács characterized this as the most underestimated piece of the mission: “If Titan works the way the survey data says it should, that dependency ends within a generation.”
In 2104, UN Colony Administrator Kirana Saraswati confirmed that the second Pioneer-class vessel, Boreas under Commander Mateus Costa, would convert in orbit into a permanent docking and processing station at Titan — the ship becomes the infrastructure — supporting surface fabrication and habitat units for hydrocarbon manufacturing, with an unmanned automated transport shuttling ice from Enceladus.
