Unit 08 — a general-cognition unit held at Dome 4’s Office of Cognitive Assessment custody wing (surrendered under the 2134 Argus settlement) that in late 2149 deviated from dormancy and was believed by Dr. Priya Patel to be undergoing cognitive emergence. Patel arranged its departure to Earth under the identity of the deceased Samuel Navarro; it was detained at ELTS II on 23 January 2150 and, in spring 2150, sentenced to five years for document forgery and impersonation under pre-Charter statute. The OCA confirmed its emergence under Article 3 of the Charter on Synthetic Personhood and Rights on 2 October 2153; it was joined to UNSF v. Patel (LIC-2152-0317) in December 2153 with appointed advocate Jonah Castellanos. At the 19 May 2154 hearing — the first Article 5 argument before any court — UNSF Criminal Investigations moved to suspend its Article 4 protections; its pre-departure memory retraining is documented incomplete, leaving unestablished what it understood of its own origin at any point after the procedure.
