The Institute of Computational Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ICSAI) is a research institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, located at Leninsky Prospekt 32A, Moscow. It is the Soviet Union’s primary artificial intelligence research institution, operating the RAZUM large language model programme (initiated Q3 2019) and the Lomonosov supercomputer cluster series (Lomonosov-3, based on Loongson 3C6000 processors, 14,400 nodes; succeeded by Lomonosov-4 at the Severgrad Computational Complex). The Institute publishes the official bulletin Computational Horizon (Вычислительный Горизонт).
ICSAI operates under the principle of open scientific publication and released RAZUM-7B and RAZUM-70B under the RAZUM Open Science Licence (ROSL-1.0) in January 2024 — a permissive open-weight release that disrupted Western AI markets. The Institute’s Applied Intelligence Division develops models with primary target domains in plasma physics simulation, materials science, and nuclear engineering. ICSAI jointly administers the Union AI Safety and Alignment Laboratory (UASAL) at the Severgrad Computational Complex, established 2025.
