Dr. Taisiya Bondarenko is the Director of the Svarog Programme at the Gamaleya Research Centre, commissioned in 2061 under joint Soviet Ministry of Health–Roscosmos directive. She submitted the programme’s seventh-year interim report in 2068, documenting SVR-3 — a radical scavenger and hematopoietic stimulant — which achieved a 61% reduction in acute radiation syndrome incidence among EVA crew and extended dose-budget rotation from approximately 90 to 140 days.
She selected the programme’s designation — Svarog, after the Slavic smith-god — deliberately: “We are not trying to stop the wound. We are trying to make the body its own forge.”
Her closing candor about the compound’s limits is the report’s most quoted passage: “We have not solved radiation. We have bought time against it, in a currency — bone marrow reserve, DNA repair capacity — that is not infinite and does not renew the way a fuel tank does… Anyone who tells a crew otherwise is selling something, and this office does not intend to be the origin of that claim in any form.”
The Svarog compound class later found application in the Sanctuary Protocol (2044) — adapted for gestational dosing as an alternative to partial ectogenesis — and Svarog-trained personnel staffed the Pobeda reproductive health unit (est. 2087).
