Sato Emiko is a professor at the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine and co-corresponding author, with Dr. Leila Moradi of the University of Tehran, of the Chryseobacterium hylae discovery paper (2032). Her group characterized the immune-mediated bacteriolytic clearance mechanism by which C. hylae — a novel bacterial symbiont of the European tree frog — selectively infects tumor cells and alters their surface antigen presentation sufficiently to trigger CD8+ T-cell-mediated immune clearance, a mechanism distinct from the direct cytotoxicity of previously studied oncolytic bacteria.
